International Days: Greece
This year our school selected Greece as the country for its International days’ celebration. Across all subjects, students followed a cross-curricular Greek themed approach to lessons, for instance learning about the Greek alphabet as a code in Maths and following authentic Greek recipes in catering.
Students across all year groups were invited to extend their talents in tailor made workshops led by some of our own staff as well as Professional artists. There were many excited and enthused participants in workshops for poetry, art, music, electronic composition, rapping, Greek theatre and Media Broadcast. This year we extended our final performance schedule so that boys in years 7 and 8 could also benefit from sharing ‘the fruits’ of the workshops. As usual, the two-day event culminated in a final performance to which parents and family of those performing were invited. The Music Department ensured that the audience were embraced by the Greek theme as they concluded with ‘Zorba the Greek’ ably conducted by one of our sixth form students, Anthony Lafferty.
Our school environment was decorated with International flags as well as the Greek flag itself that adorned our reception area. The Greek food prepared for lunch by Mrs Mcllwrath and our catering staff proved extremely popular; there were no leftovers and it seems that the boys had actually eaten most of the salad before the staff got to it!!
Many thanks to all involved in making our International Days a huge success.
